Iceland’s potential in the production of green hydrogen and the prospect of transporting hydrogen by pipeline to the UK.

Such a project may have a positive impact on the realization of the UK’s dream of building its own spaceport in the Shetland Islands, which, according to the British newspaper The Times, was previously banned by the Scottish authorities due to possible damage to historical sites. The Spaceport was planned to launch satellites weighing from 30 to 600 kilograms into orbit. The American company Lockheed Martin announced earlier plans to use the spaceport to launch its satellites. The UK space agency was planning to launch 30 rockets there every year. Nevertheless, the story can have a positive perspective if, as an additional argument in favor of the Spaceport, there is the factor of green hydrogen, which can be systematically used as a fuel for the population, industry and as a component of rocket-friendly fuel. The gradual decline in the cost of green hydrogen and the tendency towards zero would allow it to compete with other commercial satellite launch projects (SpaceX’s recoverable stage by Elon Musk, the Russian satellite launch program). Such a project meets modern environmental requirements and, unlike competitors, has a better prospect associated with possible financial losses in order to comply with the control of carbon units. Taking into account the new military doctrine of Great Britain, the initiatives of which provide for comprehensive modernization, the expansion of nuclear weapons, a technological strategy for the development of technologies in space, as well as tasks related to space reconnaissance, then green hydrogen, by its use in the missile program, performs the function of dual-use, civil and military, which will allow for more efficient spending of budget funds.

Great Britain has the prospect of becoming a European hydrogen hub in the implementation of a joint project with Iceland with the possibility of creating its own internal infrastructure for transportation, storage, active use and as a reliable transit and distributor of hydrogen to mainland Europe with a corresponding profit. By carrying out this type of activity, the UK will have a significant impact on reducing the dependence of European countries on pipeline gas, LNG, especially from non-democratic high-risk countries. Will enable diversification of energy supplies in favor of green renewable energy and gradually reduce the cost of energy costs in Europe’s new economy. This is a new renaissance and an increase in the image of Great Britain for the benefit of all of Europe.
